Squash and Stretch in Animation: Follow Up

Squash and Stretch in Animation: Follow Up

It’s been a while since I posted the “Squash and Stretch (Part 1)” from The Temple of Seven Golden Camels. So I just wanted to follow up with Part 2 and now Part 3 of the Squash and Stretch.

Part 2 talks about Squash and Stretch in your drawings…it reminded me of the post I did on “Posing in Animation” when I talked about the Complex vs Simple shapes in your posing. Interesting stuff.

And then on to Part 3 this really talks about using Squash and Stretch as part of the caricature in the animation. Almost knowing how far you can push a character before the audience notices.
Check it out some… good info. I am constantly learning how to use Squash and Stretch correctly and also when not to use it. I think as with most of the Animation Principles your understanding of them and how to use them will evolve as you evolve in animation.
Enjoy!

Follow up on Posing for Animation

Soooo… just a quick follow up on the post that I did a while back on Posing for animation (click here). I saw this post on Rad Sechrists’ “Rad How To” blog. Rad is a storyboard artist at Dreamworks
Animation. He just posted on Shape Design which goes hand n hand with my points on Curve vs
Straight.

Check out the rest of his Blog for other great posing and staging examples. He also has his blog, Rad’s Blog, where you can find examples of his work.

Enjoy

Another Note on Posing

Another Note on Posing

Just wanted to throw in another resource for ya. This book Simplified Drawing for Animation by Wayne Gilbert is another great resource for learning and really constructing poses for your animation. He breaks them down in really easy to follow ways that make sense and it seems to be an invaluable resource to add to your collection. Here are a few inserts from his book that you can find on the site. You may remember him from the free Animation Mentor webinar not to long ago. If you missed it here’s the link.

So check it out…some of the best $$ you’ll spend.
